Guinness - Foreign Extra Stout

I think any beer drinker, regardless of whether or not you enjoy craft beer, knows the name Guinness.  How could you not?  Its the staple of any St. Patrick's day party and you can generally find it at most bars as the only dark beer they have on tap.  However, what you will find on tap is Guinness' draught, their nitro carbonated, creamy, light version of stout.  You could drink 20 of them and still be going strong.  But thats not the case with their foreign extra stout.

This stout is a craft beer drinkers stout.  Dark, roasty, hoppy, high ABV... all around a bold beer.  When you pour it you cant see through it.  A nice foam forms and quickly recedes while sticking to the side of your glass.  The nose of this beer is almost all roast and hops.  My first taste is more of the same with an additional bittersweet taste towards the end.  This is definitely their most full flavored beer they produce.  The carbonation is there to accentuate the roastiness and provide for a nice dry finish.  You cant tell the alcohol is present at 7.5% ABV.  Its probably a good thing this only comes in a four pack.

Overall 5.5/6.  This is what a foreign stout should taste like.  Roasty, bittersweet, easy to drink and satisfying when you are looking to quench your stout thirst.  I would have liked just a tad more body to give me my ideal foreign stout beer but thats just my opinion.  Definitely pick this up if you are in the mood for a stout of any kind.
